Carrie Edens, age 30, lost 94.4 lbs with a variety of weight loss programs and supplements.
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Before I started my weight loss program I was 230lbs, lethargic, and unmotivated to do anything. My entire life I have been ashamed of my body, flip flopping from heavy to thin, and never feeling thin enough. I would look in the mirror and see this person I hated. When I was younger, I wanted to be a model. At age 13, I was told to get to a size five and toned and give the agency a call. And from then on I noticed I wasn’t as thin as everyone else. I was always comparing myself wishing I had what others had. Never feeling good about myself and who I am. After I had my daughter, I was embarrassed I had gained so much weight and had trouble leaving the house and finding clothes that fit that weren’t maternity clothes. It was a tough adjustment and feeling tired, and sick from eating junk all the time did not help me. I knew I was ready to change my life.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I was ready for a change. I was ready to fight for my life. I wanted to be able to chase my daughter around and not feel exhausted. I desperately wanted to be able to throw on some clothes and feel good and stop struggling with what to wear. I wanted to have energy and experience joy. The lack of exercise and weight was sucking the life from me, and I was ready to change. I wanted to be an example to my daughter and incorporate exercise and healthy eating into our lives.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program you used help you overcome that challenge?
My greatest challenge was my confidence. Before beginning, I could not finish anything. I would try to run half marathons and give up mid race and get down on myself. I tried to get into an exercise routine but always fell out of it. I tried diet after diet with some success but usually put the weight back on. I was afraid to be myself. I was afraid to stand out, to ask questions, to speak up in a group. I was afraid of failure. I wanted to be unnoticed, because I thought the person I was, wasn’t good enough for anything. After I completed one round of INSANITY, the program I used, I felt stronger than when I started and was motivated to keep going. And before I knew it I was doing other programs and was actually able to do a push-up. It helped me break down some mental barriers, and helped me to push through when I wanted to quit. The programs gave me a strength, I didn’t think was possible. I gained confidence to be myself, and know I am enough, and am able to help others.
Describe the results you achieved with your weight loss plan? Which achievements are you proud of?
I lost over 90 lbs. That took patience and dedication. It also took a lot of courage. I had to stand up for myself and say no to things that weren’t in line with my priorities. I spent most of my life saying yes to everything and trying to please everyone and always worried about what others thought of me. I have abs. I never thought that was possible for me, especially after two kids. I am proud of my strength, I can do push-ups and pull-ups. Growing up, I never had upper body strength and didn’t think I ever would, but I discovered it is possible. I am happy I learned that exercise helps me start the day right, helps my mood, and is fun!
How has your life changed since accomplishing your weight loss goal?
I look in the mirror and see beauty, not imperfections. I embrace my stretch marks. I look at old pictures of me and see a beautiful person and am no longer embarrassed I was 230 lbs. I learned I am beautiful no matter my weight, and I am enough. I exercise daily not to lose weight but to feel good and take care of my body. I don’t worry about what other people think, and I share my life and my story in hopes of helping other people. I am the confidence courageous mom I hoped to be. I started facing my fears and not letting fear control me. And it is a struggle still sometimes, I don’t always feel motivated, but I am often reminded of how far I’ve come and am so grateful to have discovered these amazing resources.
How did others support you on your journey?
My friend Jessica inspired me to become a Coach and try Shakeology, a meal replacement shake. After witnessing her transformation and hearing her phenomenal testimony of the products, I just had to get involved and try it. She supported me, motivated me, and inspired me. She shares her heart and leads with integrity, and it inspired me to share my journey with others.
What Supplement or Nutritional Products or Programs did you use? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, digestion/regularity?
My meal replacement shake changed my life. I was feeling sick a lot, mainly issues with digestion. I was also tired and felt dizzy and hungry a lot. It improved my digestion quickly. I was no longer constipated and having stomach pains. I have more energy and am motivated to live. I also use the Performance energize and recover, and noticed a huge difference in my workouts. I have the energy and fuel to push through a workout and minimal soreness.
How has this affected any existing health conditions you have?
It helped my issues with digestion. I was constipated and constantly feeling sick and dizzy. Shakeology also helped me with depression. It helped me feel better, which motivated me to do more, and learn more about myself.
